Updates to Sooj songs in Cern’s Songbook

Happy New Year! I am pleased to bring you an update on the S.J. Tucker page in Cern’s Pagan Songbook Online.

New additions to the site include: “Ravens in the Library” , “Storm”, “Girl in the Garden” and the concert version of “Go Away Godboy” (in E).

I’ve updated “Mandolin Holy Man” by adding a concert version (capoed and played in G, sounding in C) but also keeping the uncapoed version (played in C) on the same page. Two guitars playing together, one without a capo and the other with, should give a nice full sound to this great song.

And I’ve also made some needed corrections to “Go Away Godboy” the CD version (in G).

The official lyrics of “Ravens” aren’t online at this point-- and I do not think they are anywhere on the web, except now for Cern's Songbook. So *please* note that what is offered there is not official and is only my ear’s interpretation—which is pretty good at hearing chords, but sometimes less so with words. As always, corrections, comments and questions are welcome.

The web address for sooj songs with lyrics and chords is--
http://www.cernowain.com/pagansongbook/swc/sooj.html

Enjoy!

Have a Happy and Magickal New Year!

Arpeggio #22 - The First Appearance of Our SOS Sponsors!

Finally!

Remember that fund-raising drive wherein we offered appearances in a forthcoming webcomic to folks who donated to Save Our Sooj? Well, almost two years later,
those appearances begin this week.

Originally called "String Theory," the webcomic was eventually retitled
Arpeggio and appeared online a few months back. Why has it taken so long to get the contributors involved? Three reasons:

1. We're doing this webcomic old-school style: one full page per episode, each one scripted, sketched, penciled, inked, lettered and blogged. This takes roughly a week per installment, so we built up a backlog of almost 40 completed episodes before we went live. This way, we avoid the stall-out that often occurs when Life inevitably disrupts the comic-production schedule.

2. I had already scripted over 20 episodes when the Save Our Sooj benefit began. The real-life "characters" got added to the storyline from there on out. I'm now up to over 70 episodes written, with most of the appearances scripted and many of them drawn but not yet posted.

3. We had plenty of technical troubles getting the strip online. Arpeggio premiered months later than we had planned, and it took a few more months beyond that to become a regular feature.

And now,
here it is!

Our first SOS contributor, Courtney Landes, takes on the role of a teacher at Meghan's school. Other real-life folks will appear in various characterizations - all fictional, and each a part of Meghan's world. So yeah, stick around. Arpeggio just became even more interesting than before.

Enjoy!

You mess with my crew, you mess with Me.
I don't have a lot of time, so I'm gonna make my part in this short and to the point.

New rule:
You do not take my Hugo-nominated sister's gorgeous, brilliantly-written high-level Prester John treatment, and cheap it out to look like a Last Airbender porn graphic novel, at best.  Karma, anyone?  Bullshit, anyone?

Enough.

If you have a shelf full of Cat Valente books and the thought of putting this one next to them makes you want to start singing "One Of These Things (Is Not Like the Other)" - tell them so. If you are planning to buy copies of this book in the Christmas season and you're going to feel the need to say out loud "They couldn't have made a worse cover if they tried, but the story is amazing" - tell them so. In writing. If you couldn't read the title without looking twice or three times - spill it.

In whatever way this choice is going to affect your behavior, tell them so.

Be specific about the problems - the font, the disappearing author's name, the egregious whitewashing. This is a small press we're dealing with, folks. Ten emails look like twenty. Twenty-five emails look like fifty or a hundred.

E-mail goes to jlassen AT nightshadebooks.com. Damn the Man. Save the Kingdom. "Honey flows in our land, and milk everywhere abounds."

Mythpunk Army....it's time to mobilize and do that magic that I've seen you do so well, time and time again.

My darling popelizbet  says so many things passionately and well, as many of you know.
Her words on this situation, as well as the cover image, are under the cut.  Please do go there.
People are not doing right by our girl, and we can do something about it.  All it may take is one email from ten or so of us.  Please, if you have the time today or tomorrow, take the time.  I'm asking gently and hopefully.

Mischief trading cards
I received my new MISCHIEF cd in the mail last week and am absolutely LOVIN' IT!  Great love songs, songs inspired by powerful paintings, songs about hot little saucy witches, and fun songs about ninjas and killer salads-- just about everything here that any Sooj fan could want.

And then, in addition to the cool music, there are trading cards!  I was lucky to get the one with the Cheshire kitten and the orange tabby cat.  I'll be glad to share my secret info about my "notches" if you have a different card and wish to trade info with me.

The people we meet in the oddest places
I was just in Safeway getting some late night munchies as I usually do. I was behind a very nice couple in the check out stand. The gentleman (named Tom) noticed that I was wearing a Tricky Pixie T-shirt and had commented it to his girlfriend/wife/significant other/platonic friend (named Jeri, no joke) who is a big Sooj fan. We got to talking and I naturally introduced them to Pacific Fen Spotlight cause I'm a whore that way, but I thought it funny that of all the places I would meet up with two other fen, Safeway was one o0f the last places I would expect to, followed closely by the middle east and the Jerry Falwell church. Westborough Baptist church was at the bottom of that list but now that they've riled up the nerds I suspect it won't be long until they're infiltrated by vengeful Trekkies.

P.S. Like Wil Wheaton once said "I don't use nerds pejoratively, I use nerds awesometivly."

Saturday's show moved up from 7pm to 4pm
In Other Words is having us move our concert up from 7pm to 4-6pm.  If you know folks who're planning to attend, please let them know about the change.  Come and join us if you are able.  Maybe we'll just jam in a parking lot somewhere at the original appointed time, afterwards, if we're forced to disappoint a lot of fans by playing three hours earlier than we'd intended and not finding out about the shift until a couple of days before the show.

Sooj Songs with chords back online
Dear fellow Skinny White Chick fans,

After a hiatus which was too long, I am resurrecting Cern's Pagan Songbook Online. You will now find a number of S.J. Tucker songs with lyrics and chords listed at this new address:
http://www.cernowain.com/pagansongbook/swc/sooj.html

Besides these wonderful Sooj songs, I've also uploaded pages for Celia Farran, Reclaiming and SONA. You'll find a lot of traditional Pagan chants on the Reclaiming song pages. Yule songs are also now online as well. You can now find these pages listed at http://www.cernowain.com/pagansongbook/psb.html

By way of explanation, after AOL dropped their hosted webpages I had to find a new home for the Songbook.. Now that that's done, I'm currently rewriting html code for the many songs I have transcribed, which will take some time.  But I'm determined to get the site back up to where it once.  If you have suggestions as to which artists you'd like to see first, drop me a line or a reply and I'll see what I can do.

bright blessings,

Cern
